Napier is famous for it's Art Deco architecture built mostly in the 10 years following the 1931 earthquake.  Walking tours are available from the Art-Deco Trust shop or the Visitors' Centre with knowledgeable guides tours.   Tours leave at 2pm from the Art-Deco Trust Shop and at 10am and 5.30pm (from 26 December to 31 March) from the Visitors' Centre - bookings advisable, go to our "Links" page to access the Art-Deco Trust website.

The predominant architectural style in Hastings is Spanish Mission and its fascinating wandering along the central business district identifying these and spotting the occasional Art Deco building.

There are other stunning properties in Hawke's Bay built during the colonial era (Fairhall for one) and some of these are open to the public, usually to raise funds for local charities.
