FoodHawke's Bay is known as the fruit bowl of New Zealand - the fertile plains, high country pasture, abundant coastline and rivers accentuated by a Mediterranean climate help growers produce a delicious array of foods. For example, at Fairhall we grow limes, lemons, mandarins, grapefruit, olives, almonds, walnuts, chestnuts, hazelnuts, feijoas, persimmons, figs, peaches, apricots, avocados and eating grapes (we leave the wine grapes to our expert sponsors). Within a short drive of Fairhall you can visit Te Mata Cheese, Arataki Honey, Telegraph Hill Olives, Pernel Fruitworld, The Strawberry Patch, Rush Munro Ice Cream, Te Mata Mushrooms, Hawthorne Coffee Roasters and Silky Oak Chocolates - the list goes on - in fact there are 85 producers on the Hawke's Bay Food Trail. And what's more you can taste lots of these free either where they're grown or at the Farmer's Market (Sundays all year round) and Growers' Market (Saturdays from Labour Weekend to Easter) - and Fairhall is less than 10 minutes drive to either market. Fresh produce also provides the stunning ingredients that make eating out in Hawke's Bay so fantastic. Two of our sponsors, Brookfields and Clearview have vineyard restaurants that food critics rave about. Fairhall is also within minutes of many more restaurants and cafés including Terroir at Craggy Range, the River Bar, Black Barn and a short drive into Hastings or Napier offer many more including Vidals, Church Road, Mission Estate and Take 5 Jazz Bar (that has desserts to die for!). "Nice stay, very hospitable and thanks Steve for the restaurant recommendations." Matt and Sheila, London, UK. Make an Enquiry
